Commonly referred to as a cannon, the 20-pounder Parrott Rifle was the largest field gun used in the American Civil War with a barrel weight of more than 1800 pounds. Parrott guns are muzzle loading field gun invented by Captain Robert Parker Parrott. The gun was cast iron with reinforcing bands of wrought iron.
