Thought to be extinct in the Cretaceous Period 65 million years ago, Coelacanths are often known by their moniker “Living Fossil.” A lobe-finned fish whose relatives were only known from fossils until two modern species were discovered in 1938 off the coast of South Africa and later in Indonesia.
