Each spring Atlantic horseshoe crabs (Limulus polyphemus) come ashore of the nights of the full moon to lay their eggs in a timeless rite of Spring. Many are overturned and stranded by the waves are later rescued by kindly beach combers the next morning. Horseshoe crabs are not true crabs, but rather arthropods more closely related to spiders and scorpions. Fossils of these bottom feeding animals date back as far as the Ordovician period 450 million years ago. Actual stamped image is shown. Watermark will not appear on your stamp.
