Triceratops is one of the most widely recognized dinosaurs. A ceratopsid dinosaur from the Cretaceous Period makes it a contemporary of the famous Tyrannosaurus rex and cousin to other horned herbivores dinosaurs like Torosaurus and Chasmosaurus. The original specimen from Colorado was described by Othniel Charles Marsh, but a great many specimens were to later to come from the Hell Creek Formation of Montana.
