300 million years ago the odd, soft-bodied creature called Tullimonstrum gregarium lived in the muddy Pennsylvanian Period waters. More commonly called the Tully Monster after its 1958 discover, amateur collector Francis Tully. Tully Monsters are often found in the fossils of the Mazon Creek area of Illinois.
